Turing Announcements
Turing 4.0.3 (Object Oriented Turing) has been sent to Ontario Ministry of Education
In July 2002, Holt Software sent Turing 4.0.3 to the Ministry of Education for
duplication. It should now be available free of charge to publicly-funded schools
in Ontario via OSAPAC. To find out who your OSAPAC representative is, go to
www.osapac.org.
The new version of the software contains a compiler to allow you to generate
stand-alone executables. It also contains numerous features not found in
WinOOT 3.1.1.
Holt Software is pleased to announce our new texbook,
Networks, Interfaces, and Integrated Circuits.
This textbook is specifically designed to meet the expectations required in
Ontario's new Computer Engineering course (ICE4M) for Grade 12. Following
from the contents of Computer Engineering: An Activities-Based Approach,
this more advanced text uses the same hands-on approach to introduce the
students to advanced concepts in computer engineering, including networking,
number systems, computer architecture, low-level languages, integrated
circuits, and interfaces.
Object Oriented Turing Gets a Name Change.
Object Oriented Turing is also undergoing a name change. As we phase out DOS Turing, we
have decided to rename "Object Oriented Turing" as simply "Turing". The old DOS and
Macintosh Turing are now referred to as "Classic Turing". We do this in order to reduce
confusion among teachers and students that using "Object Oriented Turing" required one
to teach Object Oriented Programming. Thus the latest release of Object Oriented Turing
is simply called "Turing 4.0".
Ministry of Education of the Province of Ontario Licenses Object Oriented
Turing for all Public High Schools!
Holt Software is pleased to announce that the Ministry of Education has
licensed Object Oriented Turing for Windows and Macintosh for all public
high schools in the province including Faculties of Education. It also
includes the right for teachers and pre-service teachers to take the software
home for lesson preparation purposes.
The software has been sent to the Ministry and will be ready for September
distribution as OESS software. This means that you will obtain the software
from your OESS representative rather than Holt Software. The software will
be distributed by your OESS representative in your board. To find out who
your representative is, go to
www.osapac.org.
Holt Software's Technical support is available to any school using Turing
at (416) 978-8363 or 1-800-361-8324 for non-local calls.
Sites that are still licensed with Holt Software will continue to receive
software updates and teacher's materials directly from Holt Software until
their license expires.
Please note, this license does not include the right to redistribute the
software to your students for home use. Holt Software has instituted a
new offer to allow schools to purchase a one-time perpetual student
redistribution license. We recommend (when budgets allow!) that schools
purchase such a license to allow all their students to take the software
home. Contact
Holt Software to get
more information on this licensing offer.
